Automating the Manga Creation Process
Abstract
Comics are very popular all over the world. The Japanese manga is a type of comics that emphasizes on layout and character expression. It is very popular in the Asian countries, particularly among the teenagers. One of his current projects is to build a tool to assist novices to create their own manga. In this talk, introduction will be given on his earlier work in automating the panel layout process and his recent work in the content layout process. Current research focuses will be also briefly summarized.

Biography
Rynson Lau received his PhD degree from University of Cambridge. He was on the faculty of Durham University and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is now with City University of Hong Kong.
Rynson serves on the Editorial Board of Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds, and IEEE Trans. on Learning Technologies. He has served as the Guest Editor of a number of journal special issues, including ACM Trans. on Internet Technology, IEEE Trans. on Multimedia, IEEE Trans. on Visualization and Computer Graphics, and IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications. In addition, he has also served in the committee of a number of conferences, including Program Co-chair of ACM VRST 2004, ICEC 2007, ACM MTDL 2009, IEEE U-Media 2010, ICWL 2014, and Conference Co-chair of CASA 2005, ACM VRST 2005, ICWL 2007, ACM MDI 2009, ACM VRST 2010, ICWL 2013. Currently, he is working on two special issues: IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications and IEEE Multimedia (check his webpage for the CFPs).
